Elizabeth Lacy, an expert in schema therapy for addictive disorders, has published new research in Frontiers in Psychology.
“This can be used as a guide to treating our addiction patients in general with schema therapy,” he notes .
He also adds,
“I introduce the idea that schema therapy is well-positioned—both theoretically and practically—to address the shortcomings of existing treatment options.”
In particular, I note how addictive behaviors are intertwined with early and ongoing frustration with core developmental needs.
I then show how these key terms (needs, schemas, and mindsets) determine the assessment and formulation and direction of intervention.
This article is actually a detailed and scientific presentation of a proposal for the treatment of addictive disorders.
